Using a condom correctly is important for both preventing unwanted pregnancies and protecting against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). To begin, check the condom’s expiration date and ensure the package is not damaged. Gently open the wrapper, being careful not to tear the condom with your nails or teeth. Make sure the condom is rolled the right way — the rim should be on the outside, so it can roll down easily.
Before any genital contact, place the condom on the tip of the erect penis. Pinch the tip of the condom to leave some space for semen, which helps prevent the condom from bursting. While still pinching the tip, use your other hand to roll the condom all the way down to the base of the penis. This ensures full coverage and a secure fit, which is essential for effectiveness.
After ejaculation, hold the base of the condom while pulling out, and do so while the penis is still erect. Carefully remove the condom without spilling its contents. Tie it off, wrap it in tissue or toilet paper, and throw it in the trash — never flush it down the toilet. Using a new condom for each act of sex is crucial. Proper use every time helps keep both partners safe and protected.
